I've found myself saying, "It's never just been hair," a lot these days. So, I think it's about time I write about it. How many times have you gone to get your hair done and noticed your mood totally shift? Whether for better or worse, I’m sure it changed from where it was before you arrived.
Hairstylists have this beautiful opportunity to touch the lives of so many people on a regular basis, and many of us don’t take that lightly.
Years ago, when I ran a salon with staff, we’d have meetings in the back room to remind ourselves that every appointment, no matter how short, was time someone had carved out of their busy schedule. Their appointment might be the highlight of their day, week, or even their month or year. We never really know what someone is going through outside of that appointment unless they share it, and often, we’re too afraid to bring it up.
This was something I thought about a lot. I loved making someone’s day, putting a smile on their face, and helping them feel as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside.
It wasn’t until I spiralled into depression, struggling to put on a smile and be my best for my guests, that I truly understood the magic of having someone hold space for me. This is where my own inner healing journey truly began. I started doing energy work regularly, working through heavy emotions that were surfacing—both in the moment and those suppressed from the past. I started to understand myself on a deeper level, getting to know parts of myself I had forgotten or never even realized were there. As my internal perspective shifted, so did my external outlook.
I learned how to truly hold space for others, to listen actively and quiet my mind from its usual anxious chatter. I learned techniques to help me release, be fully present, forgive, and love myself unconditionally. The more I learned, the more I raised my frequency, and it spilled into my work. I began listening to my guests intently—understanding what they were struggling with and what they needed. I felt so grateful to have the tools to support them through their challenges.
As my journey evolved, so did my tools, and I received a beautiful nudge from my intuition to fuse energy work with my hair services. That was such an "ah-ha" moment for me. I navigated this new concept, knowing there were no mentors doing anything similar at the time, but I chose to figure it out, using my tools and trusting my intuition to guide me.
Now, it feels like such a natural match—hair and healing. Like I said before, we always knew it was more than just hair… ;) It became a beautiful opportunity to connect with people on a deeper level, to support them beyond the chair, and to help them feel beautiful not just during their appointment but long after—knowing they have tools to keep them centred in self-love.
You could also think of it as taking something already beautiful and ritualizing it.
This brings me to what I want to leave you with today… What is a part of your routine that already lights you up, and how can you ritualize it? Add some energy and flair to it? Maybe it’s your hair or skincare routine, your morning practice, your work, cooking, or even a simple self-care practice—something you can raise the energetic frequency of.
Going deeper, can you allow yourself the time and space to do your inner work? To heal the parts of you that you’ve been keeping stuffed down, silently weighing you down? Can you choose to show up for your future self, face your fears, let go of the past, and learn to heal and expand? So that a year from now, you can look back with so much gratitude it brings you to tears, knowing you did the work and it was so worth it?
You’ll look back and see how so many seemingly tiny dots connected, raising your energetic frequency bit by bit—radiating out and shifting your entire reality into the life you were once too afraid to go after.
You are capable of shifting, expanding, growing, and healing.
You are capable of ritualizing the seemingly small parts of your day to raise your frequency and your mood.
You are ready.
So much love,
Becky, xx
